Do Your Eyes Sit Wide?

By Voxy

So what do you think of this commercial in particular, and of the whole Dove “Campaign for Real Beauty” in general?

Also, is it just me, or do others remember this as a different song, such as “Do Your Ears Hang Low?”

As I recall, there was the option to substitute other body parts, which I’m sure I found hysterically amusing at age 12.

I think it’s cute. I worked briefly in advertising, so I’m going to guess that a fair bit of discussion went into the broad range of women who are represented, the kinds of professions, races, the fact that many of the actors are not conventionally beautiful or between the ages of 15–25 — but still presented as beautiful. That all seems encouraging to me. At the end of the day, yes, Dove needs to sell products, and don’t even get me started on Walmart. I don’t think Dove’s “Campaign for Real Beauty” is going to revolutionize anything right this minute, but hey, at least one company is doing something other than trying to nail down a pricey “face of” contract with the latest “It Girl.”

I like the idea too, and I’m all for “every woman is beautiful just as she is.” I have this cynical suspicion that I’m being manipulated, though.

I think the woman who starts and ends that commercial (with the headwrap and the earrings) is gorgeous.

I remember it as “Do your ears hang low?” too. I rather like it, but I like this one better:
